Sarapiquí
Overview
The Sarapiquí river has long been a favourite spot for white water rafting thrill seekers. Although it is not as wild as the Pacuare river in the Central Valley, it is still fast enough to get your heart racing! The Sarapiquí area is mostly flat farmland with many rural farmhouses surrounded by dense jungle and rainforest. There are a handful of fantastic but rustic eco-tourism focussed lodges which offer an educational experience of the local flora and fauna. The La Selva biological station is a hub for tropical scientists and those who want to learn more about the local wildlife and eco-system.
As a slightly more rustic and off the beaten path corner of Costa Rica, the Sarapiquí Valley is a perfect Eco-tourism destination.
