Casa Gangotena started life as the opulent family home of one of Ecuador’s most prominent families. This grand colonial mansion, located on the corner of Plaza San Francisco, one of Quito’s most picturesque cobblestone squares, was originally acquired by the Gangotena family in the 18th century. After a devastating fire in 1914 it was rebuilt and re-established as the social centre for Quito’s high society. In 2012 it opened its doors again, reimagined as a boutique hotel.
Grand and luxurious and right in the heart of the old town, Casa Gangotena oozes colonial class and sophistication
A fascinating fusion of neoclassical, renaissance and art deco styles, the plush interiors are redolent of the building’s history and tradition. An elaborate spiral staircase takes you to the spacious and luxurious rooms which feature high ceilings, velvet floors, marble bathrooms, historic murals and large windows. There is a delightful orchid patio, a low lit bar and a gourmet restaurant, but the piece de resistance is the rooftop terrace for privileged and unbeatable views over Quito.
