The alpine style town of Bariloche is famous for its artisan chocolate and quality draught beer – a welcome break from all the Malbec!

Bariloche is located in a beautiful setting by Lake Nahuel Huapi and surrounded by mountains in Argentina’s Lake District. The name Bariloche comes from the Mapudungun language of the Mapuche people meaning “people from behind the mountain.” Inspired by European, alpine architecture, Bariloche has become famous for its artisan chocolate which can be seen on display in the shop windows. It is also one of the only places in Argentina where you can get quality draft beer. Surrounded by pristine forests and lakes, Bariloche is an outdoor lovers paradise.

Best Time To Visit Bariloche

Bariloche is a year round destination but the experience varies greatly depending on what time of year you visit. During the summer, which is from November until February, the weather is warm and there are many water based activities available. The Autumn (March – May) is a beautiful time to visit to see the colours in the trees. It’s not too hot either. The winter (June until September) brings snow and it is possible to ski here. The spring months of October and November are also a great time to go when the trees are in blossom.
