SALTA | ARGENTINA

Why Visit Salta in Argentina?

"The remote North West of Argentina is an area of staggering beauty with traditional indigenous towns, cactus studded landscapes and few other tourists."

Salta refers both to the colonial city located in the Lerma Valley and the wider province of the same name in the North Western corner of Argentina. A lesser visited area, this remote region is full of blood red gorges, arid desert landscapes, alien rock formations, ethereal salt flats, high altitude vineyards, old mining settlements and wide open roads. The city of Salta itself is a charming colonial town originally founded by Hernando de Lerma, the Spanish conquistador, in 1582. A fantastic area for self drive Argentina tour holidays and getting off the beaten track!

When is the Best Time to Visit Salta in Argentina?

Salta & the North West can be visited all year round but the hottest time of year is the summer which is December until February. This is a popular time to go as it is high season for the rest of Argentina, but it is actually the rainy season in Salta at this time of year. We consider the best months to go March and April or September to November when temperatures are a little cooler and there is less rain. In the spring (October/November) the landscape is a little greener than usual. The winter months of July – August are the coldest but have the least rain.
