Why Visit Ushuaia in Argentina?

"The southern port city of Ushuaia, gateway to Antarctica, has a fascinating history and a real frontier atmosphere!"

Ushuaia is often claimed by Argentinians as the ‘southernmost city in the world’, yet if you ask a Chilean they will tell you that Puerto Williams is actually the southernmost city in the world! Puerto Williams is certainly further south, but the debate seems to revolve around whether Puerto Williams can be considered a city or just a town. Either way, Ushuaia is a long way south, a little over 3.5 hours by plane from Buenos Aires, located on the island of Tierra del Fuego. Steeped in mercantile and explorer history and encircled by the Martial Mountains, this isolated port city has a colourful past and a charm all of its own. The surrounding area of Tierra del Fuego has a harsh and rugged beauty and is perfect for a variety of adventure activities while on your Argentina vacation. Visitors can take excursions to the national park, visit the sea lion and penguin colonies, ride the end of the world train and take boat trips along the infamous Beagle channel.
