FLORIANOPOLIS | BRAZIL

Why Visit Florianopolis in Brazil?

"This sunny region of Brazil is known for its particularly raucous carnival, fantastic beaches and curious German towns."

Florianópolis, nicknamed Floripa by locals, is the prosperous capital of Santa Catarina state in Southern Brazil. The vibrant Ilha de Santa Catarina offers sand dunes, pine forests and many different beaches, bays and lagoons. Further south along the coast there is the pretty bay of Praia do Rosa where Southern Right Whales can be seen from July until November. Inland and into the province of Parana there is the Serra Verde Express, one of Brazil’s last great train rides from Curitaba to Morretes through mountains and Atlantic Forest. Due to a large amount of German settlers there is a distinctly European feel to the area and the town of Blumenau hosts the third largest Oktoberfest in the world.

When is the Best Time to Visit Florianopolis in Brazil?

Florianopolis & Southern Brazil can be visited at any time of year, but the most popular time for a Brazil adventure holiday in Florianopolis is the summer season from December until March. This is the hottest time of year but also the busiest as it encompasses Christmas and carnival. May until August are the winter months where it is colder, but this is the best time for surfing. The whale watching season also starts in July and ends in November. Inland temperatures are a little cooler than the coast.
