Rafting on the Pacuare River is an exhilarating experience that everyone should try! There is no previous experience required, only a moderate level of fitness and a taste for adventure!

The Pacuare River flows for almost 70 miles from the Central Valley eastwards to the Caribbean coast. It has long been known as one of the best and most scenic rivers for white water rafting in all of Latin America. The Pacuare river runs through a 25,000 acre protected reserve of virgin rainforest with steep sided gorges and dense impenetrable jungle. Turrialba is a mountainous area dominated by the huge Irazú and Turriabla volcanoes. The area is scattered with coffee and sugar plantations and offers a wide variety of activities such as horse riding, canyoneering, birdwatching and visits to the Guayabo National Monument, an interesting pre-Columbian archeological site.

Best Time To Visit Pacuare & Turrialba

The peak season is December until April which is the drier part of the year. May until August there is slightly more rain in the afternoons. The advantage of more rain is increased water levels, which makes for more exciting white water rafting on the Pacuare river! September to November the river is at it’s highest point with the fastest rapids, but these months are the wettest.
