About this tour

An excellent introduction to Costa Rica, this highlights tour takes you to some of the most popular areas and a good variety of different locations. Visit the famous volcano in Arenal and take a dip in the natural hot springs before traveling to the cooler cloud forest in Monteverde for hanging bridges and zip lining. Day 1 - Meet and greet at airport, transfer to hotel

On arrival in San Jose you will be met by your friendly English speaking driver guide who will help you with your luggage, welcome you to Costa Rica and provide you with bottled water.

You will be taken by private transfer directly to your hotel (about 20 minutes depending on traffic).

The rest of the evening is at leisure.

Day 2 - San Jose to Arenal volcano

After breakfast this morning you will be met at your hotel by your private driver guide and taken by private transfer to your hotel in Arenal (about 2.5 hours).

After checking in to your hotel the rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure.

Day 3 - Volcano hiking and hot springs

You will be picked up at your hotel about 5pm by your guide and taken to Arenal national park to enjoy a short guided hike along parts of the 1968 trail. The trail takes you through some forested areas and over the lava flows that were a result of the dramatic eruption of 1968. You will be able to enjoy up close views of the volcano and Arenal lake. After the short hike you will continue to Tabacon hot springs, the oldest and most beautiful hot springs in Arenal. A buffett dinner is included and then there is some free time to enjoy the springs before you are taken back to your hotel about 10pm.

Day 4 - Day at leisure in Arenal

Today is a free day to enjoy the comforts of your luxury hotel, or take an additional excursion. We can organise a wide range of activities including hiking, chocolate tours, zip-lining, bird watching, visits to nearby waterfalls, hot springs and more. Please let us know if you would like us to organise an additional excursion.

Day 5 - Arenal lake crossing to Monteverde

You will be picked up at your hotel and taken by private transfer to the shores of Lake Arenal (about 15 minutes) From here you will board a small private boat to take you across to the other side of the lake (about 1 hour). On arrival to the dock at Rio Chiquito you will be taken by private transfer the remainder of the journey to your hotel in the Monteverde cloud forest region (about 2 hours 15 minutes).

The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to relax in your hotel or take an optional excursion.

Day 6 - Zip lining and suspension bridges

You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the Selvatura park, a cloud forest conservation project where there are a variety of attractions. Today you will experience the rush of flying through the cloud forest on a network of canopy zip lines. The canopy tour is made up of 15 cables and 18 different platforms attached to trees. The total cable length is 2 miles with the final cable stretching for 750 metres! For this final cable you have the option of completing it in the superman position! There is also an exciting Tarzan swing. After this you will continue with your guide to the hanging suspension bridges. This treetop walking tour takes you around approximately 1.9 miles of trails through the cloud forest including 8 hanging bridges suspended up to 560 feet above the forest floor. This provides the perfect vantage point for observing the flora and fauna of the cloud forest.

Day 7 - Monteverde to the Nicoya coast

You will be picked up at your hotel in the morning after breakfast and taken by private transfer to Nosara on the Pacific Coast (about 3.5 hours) where you will be dropped at your hotel. There are local restaurants along the way that your driver can recommend should you wish to stop for lunch.

Once you have checked into your room the rest of the day is at leisure to relax by the pool.

Day 8 - Snorkeling at San Juanillo beach

Today you will go to the quiet and secluded beach of San Juanillo, one of the most beautiful in the area. It is also one of the best places to snorkel with its clear water. Accompanied by your guide you will be able to swim in the warm and calm waters whilst enjoying the underwater marine life. There will be some time for relaxing and sunbathing and a picnic of light snacks is included. Return to your hotel at your leisure after a day of relaxation.

Days 9 & 10 - At leisure on the coast

Your final two days are free to relax and enjoy the comforts of your hotel or relax on the beach. Your hotel offers complimentary shuttles to several different beaches in the area. Other excursions we can organise include turtle nesting tours, birdwatching tours, kayaking, mangrove tours and more. Please let us know if you would like us to organise another excursion.

Day 11 - Transfer to the airport for departure

Check-out and private transfer from your hotel to the airport (about 4 hours) for your return international flight.
