GUATEMALA | BEST TIME

When is the Best Time To Go To Guatemala?

It is best to arrange a Guatemala tour between November and April during the dry season. The temperatures are between 23 and 32 degrees Celsius. The highlands are famous for their beautiful, warm days and cool nights. The lowlands surrounding Tikal are hot throughout the year, with temperatures rarely dropping below the 20s and humidity rising from May as the wet season begins.

Guatemala's pleasant climate makes it a great place to visit all year. The rains are usually only for a few hours per day in the major tourist areas, even at the height of the wet season from May through to October.

Visiting Guatemala in the Dry Season from November to April

You can expect sunshine in the mornings and rain showers in the afternoon during the rainy season which runs from May to October. These showers usually last no more than an hour. The temperatures are still warm but the humidity will increase in lowlands around Tikal. This area is also the only place where heavy rains can make travel more difficult.

Visiting Guatemala in the Wet Season from May to October

The dry season in Guatemala brings beautiful blue skies and warm sunlight to Antigua, Lake Atitlan and other parts of Guatemala. The highlands offer similar conditions, though it can be colder in the evenings due to the higher elevation. You can expect to have short showers in the lowlands areas around Tikal and its jungle surroundings but not usually enough to disrupt travel. The demand for rooms in Guatemala's smaller boutique style hotels is at its highest between mid-December and mid-January and it is vital to book far in advance for this time.
