Hotel Santa Lucia began life as a private residence built by a former governor of Cuenca in 1859 and is considered one of Cuenca’s most important 19th century buildings. In 1999 it underwent a thorough restoration and was reborn as a boutique hotel. The interior is decorated in a colonial style and has retained much of it’s original charm and period features. Set around a pleasant open air courtyard, rooms are spread over two floors and all come with en-suites, cable TV, free bottled water, luxury toiletries and all the modern conveniences.

There are two excellent restaurants, Inti and Trattoria Novecento, one located indoors serving local bistro style cuisine and the other specialising in Italian cooking. Santa Lucia makes the perfect base to explore the quaint city of Cuenca at just a few minutes walk from the cathedrals, several bars and restaurants and the river.
