Mawamba Lodge ● Tortuguero ● Costa Rica
Mawamba Lodge has a unique location with the Caribbean coast on one side and the Tortuguero canals on the other. Mawamba is a rustic but very comfortable eco-lodge dedicated to wildlife. Sloths can often be found lazing in the trees and the Iguanas will keep you company by the pool. Spread out among 15 acres of lush tropical rainforest the beautifully kept private hotel grounds are home to two butterfly gardens and a frog garden. There is also direct access to the beach where there are hammocks and beach volleyball, although due to the strong currents swimming is not allowed.
"Don’t miss the butterfly and frog gardens which are great for getting photos of Costa Rica’s colourful wildlife."
The spacious rooms are Caribbean bungalow style and each has a porch with a hammock and rocking chairs. The 4 superior rooms are independent bungalows at the back of the property for added privacy and views of the canals. All rooms have hot water, private bathrooms and ceiling fans. Meals are served buffet-style by the pool and the expert Mawamba naturalist guides will often give lectures on the wealth of local wildlife in the evenings. Mawamba is a nature lover’s paradise!
