Selva Verde Lodge β Sarapiqui β Costa Rica
Selva Verde was the vision of Giovanna Holbrook, an ornithologist and pioneer in ecotourism, who purchased a piece of land in Sarapiqui back in 1982 in order to protect it from logging. She built a guest house on the land to host visiting researchers. Today that guest house has evolved into Selva Verde, one of the most respected eco lodges in Costa Rica. Located within its own 500 acre private reserve there are 40 rooms connected by elevated walkways and 7 private bungalows located a 10 β 15 minute walk from the main lodge further into the rainforest.
"Selva Verde is a long established and still owner managed eco lodge that leads the way in sustainable and responsible tourism."
Rooms are simple but comfortable with screened windows, ceiling fans, private bathrooms, desks, chairs and hammocks. The bungalows come with a fridge, complimentary coffee, air conditioning and a patio area. Most activities within the reserve are based around nature hikes, wildlife and bird watching and are led by Ronald and Jose, the two resident naturalist guides. Other activities include river rafting, chocolate tours and boat trips. The bar and restaurant is near the river which is a lovely place to spot a variety of exotic birds.
