Tambopata Research Centre β Puerto Maldonado β Peru
Originally constructed in 1989 by Eduardo Nycander, a Peruvian wildlife photographer and conservationist, the Tambopata Research Centre started life as a basic shelter designed as a base for visiting researchers who helped establish the Macaw conservation project. Over the years the lodge has developed into a world leading eco tourism initiative. Recent renovations have added new rooms, now all with private bathrooms and hot water, including 4 deluxe suites that feature a large private outdoor deck and outdoor bath tub.
βTambopata Research Centre is one of the most remote lodges in the Peruvian Amazon providing a truly immersive jungle experience.β
Wifi is available but electricity is limited to three times a day due to the remote location. The lodge is located inside the national reserve that is now accessed in the shorter time of 3.5 hours from Puerto Maldonado due to the construction of a new road. Daily excursions are led by professional conservation guides where you can spot a variety of wildlife including the White Lipped Peccary, red howler monkeys, tamarins, spider monkeys, white caiman, capybara, a myriad of bird life and even Jaguars! We recommend this lodge as the best for wildlife.
