Machu Picchu, the ‘Lost City of the Inca’s’, is Latin America’s most famous archeological site. Due to it’s remote, mountaintop location it was never discovered by the Spaniards and therefore remained well preserved. After the city was abandoned in 1572 it was virtually forgotten until the American explorer Hiram Bingham re-discovered it in 1912. With the swirling clouds and surrounding jagged mountains, the ancient and mysterious citadel is a top bucket list experience! Aguas Calientes is the nearest small town just below the site where the hotels are located.
