Sao Paulo is the name of both the city and the surrounding state. Referred to affectionately by the locals as ‘Sampa’, Sao Paulo city is a giant sprawling metropolis of almost 20 million people making it the largest city in Latin America and one of the biggest in the world. The best time to visit Sao Paulo city is between April and November when it is cooler and drier. The summer months of December until March are very hot and have frequent afternoon showers. However, if you want to go to the coast, then the hotter months of December until March are a popular time to go as this is summer in Brazil. The shoulder season months of March to May and October and November are also great times to visit.
