The Pacuare River flows for almost 70 miles from the Central Valley eastwards to the Caribbean coast. Being one of the
best Costa Rica adventure tour destinaions, Pacuare has long been known as one of the best and most scenic rivers for white water rafting in all of Latin America. The Pacuare river runs through a 25,000 acre protected reserve of virgin rainforest with steep sided gorges and dense impenetrable jungle. Turrialba is a mountainous area dominated by the huge Irazú and Turriabla volcanoes. The area is scattered with coffee and sugar plantations and offers a wide variety of activities such as horse riding, canyoneering, birdwatching and visits to the Guayabo National Monument, an interesting pre-Columbian archeological site.
