Costa Rica’s Luxury Hotels

Las Catalinas is a brand new hotel from the team behind Casa Chameleon and their latest offering certainly does not disappoint! Las Catalinas is located on the Guanacaste Coast, north of Tamarindo in a new beach town called Las Catalinas. Currently it is the only hotel in the area and offers an authentic and secluded experience of Costa Rica. Even though it is slightly larger than Casa Chameleon at 21 villas apposed to 6, it still retains its private and secluded atmosphere along with fantastic service. We think this could become one of the best luxury hotels in the country!

Described by Forbes as “the most glamorous romantic resort in Costa Rica” the six ultra modern villas that make up Kura Design Villas are the result of an ambitious architectural and ecological project by couple Martin Wells and Alejandra Umaña. The hotel aims to provide ultimate luxury with a sustainable and environmental awareness. Perched in the hills above Uvita beach the secluded villas have glass walls, spacious double rain showers and come with a pre-loaded iPad for the guests to use.

A fantastic hotel for couples and honeymooners with just six large private villas tucked away amongst the tropical jungle on the Nicoya Peninsula near to the boho surfer town of Malpaís. This hotel is all about privacy, seclusion and romance. Every villa has its own private pool and terrace with no TV’s wifi or phones in the villas to enhance the experience. The service is top notch and gourmet cuisine is served either in your villa or at the open air restaurant. We especially like the indoor and outdoor showers!

Arenas del Mar is the only hotel in Manuel Antonio National Park with direct access to a beach and has a reputation for being one of the best luxury hotels in the area. The hotel also has eleven acres of rainforest reserve with nature trails for guests to explore. Our top tip would be go for one of the higher category rooms as the lead in rooms can be fairly small and the views from the suites are worth the extra expense.

Nayara Springs is without doubt the top luxury hotel in Arenal and has some of the biggest rooms of any hotel in the country. The sumptuous Springs Villas are huge and feature your own private plunge pool and garden with views to the volcano. They also some with a personal host, included minibar and complimentary laundry service. Nayara Springs is also connected to the Nayara hotel by a bridge that crosses a rainforest ravine and guests are free to use all the facilities.

Pacuare Lodge is perhaps the most unique option on this list. Set in the middle of the rainforest and accessed uniquely by river raft, it is perhaps an unlikely location for a luxury lodge! This extraordinary place was built with minimum impact on the environment and the small amount of electricity used is produced on site. The best part is at night when you return to your room and it is lit solely by candle light with the sounds of rainforest outside.
